This May a group of Transition Year students will be taking part in the Camino de Santiago pilgramage in Spain. The Camino de Santiago de Compostela, known as The Way of St James, is a collection of old pilgrimage routes which cover all Europe. They all have Santiago de Compostela in north west Spain as their final destination. For more than 1000 years pilgrims have been walking along the Camino de Santiago. It will be from Saturday the 16th May to Saturday the 23rd.

Diarmuid Sugrue, Alex Owens, Graham Renolds, Eoin Healy, Niall McVey, Ben O'Beirne, Conor Waldron and Micheal Lockart(all 4th year) were interviewed today as part of the rotary club's EU competition. The winner from Dublin Wins a trip to Brussels Next year. Good luck to all those involved.

As well as today being the 90th anniversary of the armistice, 10 Transition year and 5th year students attended the 1st Phil Speaks workshop for 2nd level students held in Trinity College. They learned about different forms of public speaking and debating and competitive rounds will be taking place later in the year. If you want to take part in those contact Ms. Canning.

The dress rehearsal for Ochón took place tonight. The show runs from Tuesday to Saturday of this week. Tickets are avaiable at the door so please support our show!!

This week the hard work of BCR is really being takled. Everybody is buzzing around finishing, editing and researching packages and recording shows. All teams, Editing, News, sports, advertising, continuity, showcase, noon show, and class shows are working hard.

Congratulations to all members of this years student council including Fourth years Alex Owens and Mathew Foster. The council is a powerful resource for building community in Blackrock College. Its chairperson for 2008-2009 is Patrick Gallagher.

Mid-Term already? Well just because its mid-term doesn't mean there's nothing happening in school! Rehearsals for the show are every day and the crew are biulding the set. Well done to all those in the Leman choir! Ms. O'Connor will be selecting the best of these to form the Libermann Choir so we'll keep you posted.

The first of our 4th year lectures took place today as nutritionist and gym owner Pat Henry came in to talk to us about nutrition and sports supplements! All the guys really enjoyed and listened intently to what he had to say.

Today a group from Transition Year Maths classes visited a seminar for TY students in UCD about the maths in your iPod as part of world maths week. The talk, which focused largely on cryptology, was enjoyed by all.

The first set of evening courses and Wednesday and Thursday started this week. They include Sound engineering, Legal studies, First Aid and yoga. thay will be run throughout the year. ECDL classes take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays all year.

The first of our Bullying Awareness Days took place in the college today.

Homework Club which is run by the Blackrock conference of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays for the rest of the year. Each week a few TY students go to Monkstown Farm to help children less fortunate with their homework. Lists of names and dates are on Ms. Nulty's board. For more click here.

The first acting auditions for the school musical in conjunction with Mount Anville, Ochón, took place today. The show will take place between the 11th and 15th of November. Auditions for cast, crew and band are taking place soon.

The history classes led by Mr. Byrne and Ms.Wallace went to the Dublin City Archives and library to view their exhibition on the North Strand bombings during WW2.

Congratulations to 40 TY students who raised €7,207.35. for the Blackrock hospice's coffee morning. This is over €4000 more then last year so well done! For more click here.

Today we began our modules. They are run for three weeks at a time and include Arts and crafts, Car maintenance, home economics, film studies, careers and mental health, RSE and Public Speaking. For information on other TY projects click here.

Today Transition Year officialy began as we had our 1st Induction Day. Half of the year stayed in school to be introduced to the Transition Year programme and the other half went on a team building exercise to Clogher Head Adeventure Center. We were given our Transition Year log books to be presented at the end of the year, and also our activities and sign out books. To see pictures click here.
