Gaisce Retreats

So far three groups of TY students have gone to "The Bridge" Retreat Centre in Gorey, Co. Wexford as their Adventure Journey for Gaisce. It was found by most to be an enjoyable and challenging experience.

After getting the DART and then the Inter-City Commuter Train to Gorey, the students were transported by coach to Croghan Woods where we would begin our hike. After the safety procedures were outlined we began to ascend Mt. Croghan and reached the summit after approximately 70 minutes. Windy and wet conditions on the 2nd week made for a tricky descent, especially when the students navigated their way down the "Stairway to Hell". Finally we reached the house at 8:30pm where we enjoyed a hot dinner, meditation and then watched a movie.

The next day we participated in workshops, trying to discover more about ourselves and our own personalities. Afterwards we commenced Part II of our hike, battling against heavy rainfall. After a tiring day we returned to the house, had dinner, packed our bags and got ready to leave. We arrived at Blackrock Dart station at 9:00pm. Overall it was a very worthwhile experience.
