Glasnevin Cemetery
Today two classes of TY students went to Glasnevin Cemetery, the biggest and most famous burial ground in Ireland.
Iconic figures in Irish history such as Michael Collins and Eamon DeValera were laid to rest in Glasnevin and it was quite interesting to learn the stories of how they all died and how they ended up in the cemetery. A large scale restoration project is currently in the works to restore parts of the cemetery that have fallen into disrepair. It would be greatly appreciated if you donated to the cause of restoring this beautiful landmark. Following a tour of the cemetery, the TY students were treated to coffee and cakes at the cafe and went for a wander inside the new museum. The museum housed additional information such as how graves were dug 100 years ago and the tricks of the grave robbing trade! There was even a skeleton stashed under the floorboards that was viewable through a little window. Whether it was real or not remains to be seen... Overall, It was an interesting and enjoyable trip.
