SCT v Saint Marys
The 'Rock SCT had a well deserved win against a resiliant St Marys side on the weekend. From early on it was clear the 'Rock pack had the physical edge and got the better of Mary's in the opening exchanges. Leading the 'Rock charge was Gavin Thornbury who made some good carries and tackled strongly throughout the game. Blackrock got off the mark in the 14th minute when Jack O'Caroll fired home a long range penalty.
This was followed by an outstanding individual effort by Gav Tynan which resulted in a try for 'Rock. St Mary's took advantage of a 'Rock sin-bin and crossed over for a soft try.
Blackrock came out of the half time break fired up and this showed when a pin point kick from Gav Tynan resulted in a Mary's lineout five from their line. Fourth year Nick Timoney took advantage of an overthrow and showed superb strength to bundle through the opposing 10 and cross for a try. Only minutes later Timoney again showed his athleticism when he barged through the Mary's pillar defence for the second try of his senior career. This left the score at 25-5. Minutes from the end Marys scored a consolation try which left the final score at 25 - 12.
