Colts-v-Wesley/House

Rugby-ballThe final week of the half-term was quite a successful one for the Colts squad. Having lost their previous three games, the 1sts needed a win against Wesley on Wednesday. This would be no easy task as the Wesley team was made up of their JCT players from last year. They started better and got an early try. But 'Rock didn't drop their heads and scored three unanswered tries. Then in the second half, Brian Horgan slotted a penalty to give the Colts an 18-5 lead.

Wesley replied with a try soon afterwards and after they got the conversion, they game was back on as they had plenty of time to get a converted try which would put them ahead. However 'Rock got up to Wesley's line and looked to finish off the game. But the ball was turned over and a clearance kick turned into a try-scoring chance for Wesley as the chasing winger kicked it over the try line and slid in attempt to touch it down. Colts winger Adam Kennedy seemed to have touched the ball down to get a 22m drop-out but the referee, who was on the half-way line at the time, awarded the try. Wesley missed the conversion, though, and 'Rock won 18-17. Unfortunately the 2nds lost 10-0 away to Clongowes. The following day, the Colts 1sts had a trial match aginst the House U 16's, which included players who had featured for the SCT this year. The Colts put in a heroic defensive performance and it looked like they were going to hold out for a draw, which would have been a fantastic result. But a try by Gavin Kilgallin in the second last play won it for the House. The Colts were delighted with their performance, however, and the House were not happy as they expected an easy win.
