Colts v St Columba's, East Coast League
The Colts 1sts got off to a fantastic start in the East Coast League on Wednesday February 8th. It was expected to be a very tough match because the Columba's side had already beaten the Castle 5ths. Tristan Brady opened the scoring with an early penalty. Columba's responded immediately, scoring a try to go into the lead. Later on in the first half, a try from in form centre Jack Conroy-Smith put 'Rock back in the lead. They controlled the game from then on in.
Colts 1sts v St Andrew's
On Saturday February 4th, the Colts played against a St Andrew's senior seconds side. It was a very even match throughout, despite many of the Andrew's players having SCT experience. Tries from Liam Quigley and Joe Horan weren't enough to win, however. In the end, it was 17-10 to Andrew's.
Colts-v-Wesley/House
The final week of the half-term was quite a successful one for the Colts squad. Having lost their previous three games, the 1sts needed a win against Wesley on Wednesday. This would be no easy task as the Wesley team was made up of their JCT players from last year. They started better and got an early try. But 'Rock didn't drop their heads and scored three unanswered tries. Then in the second half, Brian Horgan slotted a penalty to give the Colts an 18-5 lead.
Colts 1sts v St Mary's
The Colts 1sts came up against a St Mary's side featuring many fifth and sixth years on Saturday,14th January 2012. It was the first match of the new year and it was always going to be tough playing against older opposition.
House XV VS Sedbergh
On Saturday, the House XV played Sedbergh. The game was a physical encounter both teams played well but Blackrock came out on top.
SCT vs Clongowes
On the 9th of November, the SCT came up against Clongowes. The match began at a quick pace as both teams challenged for the ball early on. However clongowes broke ahead with an early try setting the tone for the rest of the match. But still Rock were fearsome in play with outstanding hits from Nick Timoney and David O’Conor (both fourth years). Rock dominated in the air with Conor Kilcoyne feeding them the ball. But clongowes were tough shutting down play and breaking the line. Despite Rocks efforts the final score came to a dissapointing 36-0. A massive learning experience for the blue and white.
SCT vs Ivy Bridge
On friday the 21st Rock's seniors took on Ivybridge. Jack O'Carroll opened the scoring with a penalty followed by a second. Ivybridge responded well with two of their own penalties to even the score. Christain Dodd came close to scoring a try in the second half, but knocked the ball on over the line. Rock were persistent though and finally a score came in the form of Nicholas Timoney. The game finished 12 points to 6. All round a great performance by Rock who dominated throughout.
