BT Young Scientist
In its 48th year, the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition is much more than just a competition; it is an unforgettable experience of a lifetime for the students who take part. The exhibition itself is the final stage in the competition which is open to all second level students from Ireland, both North and South. As well as the 520 student projects on display, there are a further four exhibition halls filled with science and technology based exhibits and entertainment, making it a thrilling event for those who enter and for general visitors too.
Gaisce
Gaisce (The President’s Award) is Ireland’s National Challenge Award, the country’s most prestigious and respected individual award programme, and a challenge from the President of Ireland, to young people between 15 and 25 years of age.
Many Blackrock TY students take part every year.
TY Dragons
TY Dragons’ Den Competition
In 2009 the Blackrock College Union set up a Dragons’ Den Competition. This competition encourages the students to develop their business acumen and entrepreneurial talents. The competition involves pitching an idea or product in front of the rest of the year. It will be judged by a panel of former Blackrock students who have distinguished themselves in the world of business. The number of people that apply are narrowed down to 11 and then to 5 on the day of the final. A substantial prize fund will be awarded to the winning entrants.
Music, Art and Drama Week
Music, Art and Drama Week is an excellent programme that is organised specifically for the Transition Year students by its Director, Ms O'Kane.
The week is designed to bring out the more creative side of the students with various workshops providing a wide variety of activities including journalism, guitar, creative writing, media, songwriting, dance, magic, graphic design and many more.
Christmas Hampers
Christmas Hampers
This project is organised in conjunction with the St. Vincent de Paul. All the money raised from the 24 hour Soccer Marathon funded this project. This year 220 hampers were packed and delivered.
